TAKING CARE OF YOU: Celebrate Spa Week At Home

April 13-19 2009 is Spa Week. Many spas across the country, primarily in the larger cities, are offering discounted spa treatments ($50) for select services to both encourage patrons to try a new treatment they may not have had before and to promote their businesses.

Not everyone lives in an area with participating spas, and many of us are on a budget where even a fifty dollar discounted treatment is not within our reach.

So why not have Spa Week at home?

My challenge to everyone is to give yourself one spa treatment every day for a week. Yes, every day! I'm not talking about anything time-consuming...although an hour-long soak in the tub would be nice! No, just do something quick, cheap, easy, and nice for yourself.

Here are some ideas:
  • Freeze two spoons overnight. In the morning, leave them on your eyes until they are no longer cold. This will reduce puffiness and dark circles. I've read if you do this every morning for two weeks, dark circles will be practically eliminated.

  • Mix up an inexpensive body scrub. A few weeks ago I posted about visiting Hershey Spa and how I found the exact recipe for the most luxurious and incredible body scrub. It costs less than three dollars to make sixteen ounces, and your skins feels soft and exfoliated. I use it every Tuesday when I jump in the shower. NOTE: use on dry skin, otherwise moisture will just disolve the salt.

  • Apparently, coconut oil is a primary ingredient in hair treatments. Slather some on your hair and build it up while moisturizing.

  • Buy some powdered milk and add that to a bath along with a little bit of honey.

  • Dry skin? Try this recipe for a all-over deep body moisturizing treatment.

  • Give yourself a manicure and pedicure. A bottle of Opi on sale in my area is $6.50 and will do more than one manicure/pedicure.
Don't start thinking that you need to set aside a huge block of time or that you need to clean the bathroom first or any other "it has to be perfect" thought. Even if it is just five minutes for yourself, it's still a treat. You are worth at least five minutes, aren't you?
